11 Questions for the Sunshine Blogger Award

Posted on Mar 14, 2018 by Lisa Ricard Claro   15 Comments | Posted in The Naked Truth

Happy Wednesday! Thank you for popping over to spend a little piece of your day here at Writing in the Buff. Today I’m answering questions posed by fellow blogger Tomi Rues. Tomi nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award which I will place on my sidebar with pride. It has been quite a while since I’ve played along with one of these blog jumps, and I’m happy to participate. Thanks, Tomi, for the nomination.

For those who may not know, Tomi writes an upbeat blog titled Think. Write. Inspire. She is also the creator of a beautiful line of journals which you may peruse on her Amazon page HERE.

To accept the Sunshine Blogger Award, I must do the following:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you. (Thank you, Tomi! *waves*)
  2. Answer the questions from the person who has nominated you. (Nothing but the Naked Truth. See below.)
  3. Nominate other bloggers for the award. (Nominees are located at the end of this post.)
  4. Write the same amount of questions for the bloggers you have nominated. (Okie dokie.)
  5. Notify the bloggers you have nominated. (Will do.)

Here are Tomi’s questions and my responses:

  1. What do you love most about blogging/writing?

The people! I’ve met so many wonderful people through this blog, many of whom have become dear friends although we’ve never met in person. But when we do, there will be big hugs involved and possibly a few bottles of wine.

  1. Where is the coolest place you have ever traveled to?

That’s a tough one because I believe my coolest experiences are yet to come. I guess if I have to choose a place that carries magical qualities for me it would be Lieutenant’s Island on Cape Cod. I wrote an article about it a few years ago for the magazine “Cape Women Online.” You can read it here (and also see a photo of a much younger me before I cut my hair and embraced the silver):

That said, one of my favorite days was spent at Dunn’s River Falls in Jamaica. The hubster and I climbed the falls with the kids and had a blast doing it. It was a family day highlight for sure.

  1. Describe your favorite snack.

Thin, crunchy, salty, and made from spudly goodness, my hands-down favorite snack is potato chips. I also love chocolate, coffee ice cream, and red velvet cake with ooh-gobs of cream cheese icing. Oh, and M&Ms. And wine.

Wait. Wine isn’t technically a snack. It’s more of a regular food group, right? Made from grapes, so it qualifies as a fruit. 🙂

Hmm. I’m maybe a little too enthusiastic about this snack category.

  1. What’s the best movie you have seen lately?

Deepwater Horizon.

  1. What is your favorite season and why?

Here in Florida, winter is my favorite. The weather is amazing with a perfect mix of warm and cool during the day and enough chilliness at night to warrant the use of a jacket or sweater. Every day is a perfect beach day. Most days are warm/cool/breezy enough to keep the windows open. And this close to the Gulf, well . . . it just smells good.

When I lived in Georgia, and definitely when I lived in New England, autumn was my favorite. I loved the Indian summer days and cool nights, the eye-popping colors of changing foliage, the scents of wood smoke and fallen leaves, the pumpkin spice everything (oops, I’m slipping into snacks again), and the promise of upcoming holidays. And that first snowfall that sometimes arrives before Thanksgiving. Ahh . . . magical.

  1. Do you believe in ghosts?

100% yes. I believe in all kinds of things. I figure that as a parent I didn’t always tell my children everything. There were things they didn’t need to know and others they wouldn’t understand. My belief is that God doesn’t tell his children everything either. There is plenty we don’t know and much we haven’t the capacity to comprehend. But the Universe is brimming with magic and miracles and mighty strange things. I don’t have to experience or understand them all to believe they exist.

  1. What advice do you give but don’t take yourself?

Stop procrastinating. *sigh*

  1. If you had to choose one favorite color what would it be?

  1. When is the last time you laughed?

About five minutes ago with my husband. He’s my BFF, and we laugh all the time about pretty much everything.

  1. Do you prefer a tablet or actual book while reading?

Give me a book please. I love how books feel, how they smell, and how they sound when I turn the pages. I’ve heard all the arguments for electronic readers and they don’t resonate with me, kind of like the arguments for choosing a banana over a bag of potato chips. I mean, I could, but why the hell would I want to?

  1. If you could have one wish granted, do you know what it would be?

Why, yes, as a  matter of fact I do. 😉

If any of you readers have follow-up questions for me, please put them in the comments. I’ll be happy to answer!

And now I must nominate others for this award. Here are five wonderful bloggers who inspire me:

Cathy C. Hall

Sioux Roslawski

Linda O’Connell

Here are your questions, ladies! Be sure to follow the rules.

Well, dang, Lisa, you have such good answers…can I just borrow yours? 🙂

Thanks, sistah, will have something to blog about next week! Also, I need chips right now. Lots of ’em.

The time for chips is always NOW. lol I’m partial to Lay’s original and Miss Vickie’s kettle chips. Cape Cod is a good brand for kettle chips as well. I’ll be sure to have a bag of at least one to munch while I read your answers to the questions. I know that no matter what you say, HOW you say it will be entertaining. 🙂

Hi from snow-bound New England! We’ve got 18 inches of snow here in Lowell. Love today’s blog!! Congratulations on your nomination!!

I too like coffee ice cream. I’ve switched to frozen yogurt, Stonyfield’s Gotta Have Java. It is awesome! Enjoy the good weather! xo

That is a new brand to me, Marylou, but you know I’m going to hunt it down now. If it can be had here in sunny Florida, this chick will find it!

Well, I’m flattered as all get out that you chose me as one of the recipients. Thanks so much! 🙂 It’s a nice Wednesday surprise. You’re too kind! You’ve lent me wonderful support and inspiration over the years. I’m with you on number 7 – procrastinating is quite the hobby with me lately. Figure I’ll get it all together. Tomorrow. (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)

Haha! That reminds me of one of my favorite quotes. Ellen DeGeneres said: “Procrastinators of the world, unite! Tomorrow.” Hehe… And thanks also for your kind words. Your blog has inspired me many times; you always offer wonderful writing tips. So glad you’re going to answer the questions, Karen. I’ll look forward to reading your responses on your blog.

Thanks for the nomination, Lisa! I’ll have to think about this, and have my answers ready for my next blog post in two weeks. (I’ve turned into an every-other-week-blogger.) 🙂

That’s one of the beauties of blogging, Pat—it’s your own little corner of the world where you set your own schedule and do as you please. 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading your answers. 🙂

Lisa, you are the best! I appreciate the nice words and I loved your answers. I want you to know that no matter how busy life gets, I always take the time to read your new posts. Also, I noticed that in Cape Women Online you said you wanted to live by the beach someday. How cool is that?! Dreams do come true….

Thanks, Tomi. I appreciate you! And thanks again for the nomination. This was fun. 🙂 Yes, dreams do come true. That bio you mentioned followed my byline for a long time. After we moved here a reader contacted me offline suggesting it was time to update my bio. She was right! After many years of dreaming and hoping and planning, this mermaid finally has her fins in the saltwater & sand.

Yay! Can’t wait to read your answers. Find a way to incorporate photos of Alex & Liam, okay? Those beautiful little boys always brighten my day and, I’m certain, everyone else’s!

I loved reading your answers! I have to agree to disagree with #10, though. 🙂

I love my tablet/ereader as I can take dozens of books with me in just a small amount of space. I also love being able to read in the dark without turning a light on and one of the best things – I can look up unfamiliar words/phrases without going to find a dictionary (something I would never take time to do if reading a physical book). One final thing… hubby and I work with a lot of older people who have vision problems; ereaders have given them back the ability to read books after the print in physical books became too hard for them to read.

Having said all of that, I have several shelves full of hard-copy books that are treasures I will never read. They are signed copies and I just admire them and think of all the wonderful authors I got to meet when I got them signed. 🙂

You know I cannot disagree with your points regarding your electronic reader. You’re correct on all counts which is why so many people rely on those to carry their library with them wherever they go. Still, I’m old school. I like books. That said, maybe I’d change my mind if I had a newer device. My Kindle is an earlier model, and it had a lot of limitations. It might be that a current rendition would win me over. (But I doubt it. lol)
