A Better World

Since my last post was about a rat, I know you are wondering, “How can her world get better than that?”
Well, my world did improve a bit when the mailman arrived this afternoon.  He carried with him my advance copy of Cup of Comfort for a Better World, due in bookstores March 25th.  My story, “Angels Afoot,” is in this volume and I hope you will have the opportunity to take a look when it hits the shelves.
“Angels Afoot” is the story of a good deed performed by my Mama and Daddy. The irony is that when they worked their angel magic they did so in anonymity, preferring to take no credit.  Now I’ve gone and had the details published for all to see–so much for keeping things quiet and humble.  The truth is, my pride in them won out over my ability to keep my mouth shut. Also, my sister didn’t nickname me Mouth Almighty for nothing.
Cup of Comfort for a Better World shares stories of “paying it forward” which is a good sentiment to embrace in these crazy times.  I am proud to have this story included in the book, and believe that somewhere in heaven my parents are finding more ways to sprinkle their angel magic.
God bless –

Oh, Lisa! Congratulations! That is wonderful. I can't wait to read your story! How sweet of you to write about your parents' good deeds. And I'm sure the angels will restrain them, if they even consider being upset with you! On the contrary, they will be truly proud of their sweet and talented daughter! 🙂

Thanks, Becky. I especially like the "sweet and talented" part which is very nice of you to say. It takes the spotlight off the "Mouth Almighty" description I mentioned. Thanks for your support. I still covet your chicken and teapot clock, though. 🙂

Hi Linda – waiting is stinky, you're right. I've got a couple of things out there, too, and try not to think about them. I found my Chicken Soup for Beach Lovers and read your story. You made me cry! I'm tickled we're both in there and didn't know of each other yet.

Hi Kathy – thanks for checking me out and joining up. I'm always excited when someone new "follows" — I'm making some great blogland buddies and finding my fellow writers to be funny and generous. I'll be back to your blog, too, so watch for me!

I kinda think I remember this angel story, Lisa…or another angel story? Anyway, I think it's wonderful that you were able to honor your parents in such a lovely way. I'm sure your parents are smiling.

Thanks, Master Y. You may have heard part of this story a few years ago. I think it was summarized in a piece that included a series of things (read: a jumbled mess). Your critique at the time (scathingly brilliant, of course) was to unjumble. "You have more than one story here," was, I believe, the diplomatic way you stated it. Good things come to those who unjumble (and who listen to the wise and powerful Yoda). 🙂
