A Little Hair of the Dog – From Around the World!

With the holidays upon us, the promise of spiked egg nog, mulled wine, and “that punchy stuff that Bubba brought” is in the offing. It isn’t a stretch to believe that some amongst us might over-imbibe, so today’s Observations from the Tub brings you ten hangover cures from around the world. These include Sparrow Droppings in Brandy (Hungary), Pickled Sheep Eyeballs in Tomato Juice (Mongolia), and the ever popular Dried Bull’s Penis (Sicily). Here ya go, Buttercup! Enjoy!

10 Bizarre Hangover Cures from Around the World, via Huffington Post.

Hey, this is a public service, folks. I’m just happy to be of help.

My most memorable hangover cure story comes from my bachelorette party three days prior to my wedding. My Alpha Delta Pi sorority sisters took me out and got me hammered.  The morning after, my dad handed me a concoction and said, “Hold your nose and drink up, kid.” I did, and upchucked everything I’d eaten in the last six months. After things settled down and my skin turned from green back to pasty gray, I did begin to feel better. No idea what was in the Daddy Brew—it was deadly, but effective.

What’s your most memorable hangover cure? Don’t tell me you don’t have one. I won’t believe ya.  😉

Have a great weekend, y’all. See you Monday for Pawsitive Pondering!

I honestly don’t have one. I’ve been drunk, but never to the point of throwing up and never to the point of feeling miserable the next day. (I’m crazy enough without adding lots of alcohol to the mix.) I love the photo.

Thank goodness your bachelorette party was a few days before your wedding. If it was the night before, well…

You’ve got that right! Although even three days later my eyes were still bloodshot. I know this, because of my wedding photos. They didn’t have Photoshop back then!

One New Year’s Eve when I was in my late 20s,we went out with a group. I drank mixed drinks, wine and then champagne. Nothing stopped the bed from spinning for three nights. Never again. I prefer peach tea.

Ugh. Yes, been there, done that, no wish to repeat. I do like my wine, but I’m careful to limit the quantity these days.

Never tried it, but if you say so… 🙂 I’d still like to know what was in my dad’s concoction. That stuff was both horrendous and amazing. lol

Menudo works–the juice, not the wigglys.

You lost me at wigglys. Ugh.

I never did find one that worked well, but I think some of those cures are onto something. I think they’re designed to make the drunk so grossed out, he/she will never want to drink too much again. These days I find aging is a good remedy – drinking just makes me too tired to have fun.

Haha! And yes, age has cured me, as well. I still like a glass or two of wine in the evening, but as for the rest of it, I can do without it.

Somehow I missed this post; I don’t think I’ll ever get my email all caught up!

Believe or not I’ve never been even close to drunk. I don’t have anything against drinking, I’ve just never found anything that didn’t burn too much going down. The good thing is that I’m always available to be the designated driver. LOL

I don’t drink much anymore, though I did tip back a few when I was younger. No interest in over-imbibing. I’m too old. lol The idea of doing shots makes me shudder. Gak.
