Book Blurb Friday #1

Posted on Mar 3, 2011 by Lisa Ricard Claro   31 Comments | Posted in Book Blurb Friday · meme

Woo-hoo! Book Blurb Friday at last! This is BBF’s maiden voyage and I am:

1.  Hoping that. . .I didn’t screw up the Mr. Linky widget. My technical expertise is 0 on a scale of 1-10.  You’ve been warned.

2.  Hoping that. . .You take the ideas from your book blurbs and turn them into bestselling novels. (No point dreaming if we don’t dream big, right?)

3.  Hoping that. . .Everyone has as much fun writing their blurb as I did.  I’m excited to read the other blurbs!

Now, without further ado . . . .my first ever BBF offering, 150 words or less to entice you to read:

 **Book Title:  The Gateway

Eyes are the Gateway to the soul. . .
Eve Bannon has a rare gift.  Born a Gateway Empath, her eyes look into yours and see what the world cannot. Your very soul. . .
A valuable asset to America’s top security agencies, Eve works covertly, using eye contact alone to assess a subject’s threat potential.
Cain Devlin is a technological genius. He is a solitary and enigmatic man with a secret so volatile it can never be shared.
During a chance encounter, Eve’s eyes meet Cain’s.  The impact of his true self chills her to her core.  But she sees something else, too; and as she struggles to understand it she must determine if his life’s purpose is so evil it must be stopped, or so sacred it cannot fail. Was he sent to lead mankind to Heaven, or through the Gateway to Hell?    (word count 145)

** FYI – I did not count the book’s title as part of the blurb.

So what do you think? Would you buy the book? My first draft of this blurb was twice as long and I had a tough time cutting it down to size. I’m hoping I get better as I go along!

If you are participating in BBF, please remember to post your link so others can go to your blog and read your blurb.  Scroll down to see next week’s “book cover.”

For information on Book Blurb Friday please click the tab under the blog header. I hope you’ll join the fun!

Here is next week’s “book cover”:

Oh, Lisa!!! I know that this isn't even for a real book, but I will buy all of your real books when they are published. Great job! I'll give a shout out about your Friday meme, hopefully tomorrow. Way to go!

Wow Lisa, how are we supposed to compete with that for goodness sakes – I want to buy that book! I'm thinking you need to write the book – forget BBF and work on your story!

I just linked, but I thought this picture esp. hard. My blub is rather lame and ordinary. I hope to sharpen my efforts!

Hey Kathy – Thanks! You're such an optimist. I hope to hold you to that one day. :)Hi Lynn – I'm excited to read other entries because each one will be so different. My big challenge is shutting up! That 150 word max is killing me! LOLHi Claudia (Bookie) – I linked to you and read your blurb and think it's terrific. You're my first blurber! A dubious distinction, eh? 😛 Thanks for jumping in. Perhaps you'll find next week's pic more to your liking.

This is THE Becky Povitch, right? The famous author? Of COURSE it's worthy!Hey Lynn – I read your blurb and loved it. Picturing you as a private eye did make me chuckle, though. :)Hi Susan – I actually had a tough go, too. I knew what I wanted to say but had trouble keeping to the word count. I'll head out to your blog now and read your blurb. I'm sure it's terrific.

Hi Lisa … this is a really great idea of yours, glad launch day has arrived at last!I loved your blurb. What fun you could have with a story like that! That blurb would make me buy it .. and tell Christina that her picture would make me take it off the shelf to read the blurb! (I am loving her photography!) I have posted mine. It is (for reasons that escape me) leaning towards YA or perhaps more accurately New Adult, which is not my natural stomping ground. Perhaps I ought to give it a go and see what happens! lol (I can't stop developing the plot in my head, so I think I will just have to!):Dom

Hi Jean – Thanks! I've been out to the other blurbs and it's a good thing they aren't real. My Kindle downloading bill would be climbing.Hi Margo – So glad you enjoyed it. I hope you'll participate every week. :)Hey Ellie – I feel the same way. So many ideas! We'll each be creating our own file of "starters". Thanks for participating!

Hey Dom – How wonderful that this inspired a new venue for you! Me too, actually. I don't normally lead toward sci-fi, but my story seemed so obvious to me that I may have to give it a whirl. I'll start small so as not to embarrass myself. :)I'll pass on your kind words to Christina.

Lisa, I saw that your daughter's name was on the photographs and figured she must be taking the pictures (pretty likely conclusion for a PI – he he he), and I want to say how interesting all the book cover blurbs have been. Geez, everyone needs to write the book they created with their blurb. Whew. But tell your daughter, nice photos!

Hi. I understand you are having trouble managing the links on your meme. I use linkytools for my memes but the way I make changes on that services is to click on the actual meme you built. There should be a display somewhere saying – 18 (or whatever the number of current links is) active links. Generally that will be a hyperlink. Click on that. It will display the links you have active on the current meme. On linkytools there is a delete button for each line at the far right. Click on delete this link. It will give you a warning along the lines that if you delete the link it will be unretrievable. Hit OK. On linkytools when you are done deleting all the links that you wish, you have to click a "SAVE" button at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Without that the deletes won't save.If you need more help, please e-mail me and I can try to access your actual meme and make necessary changes for you!Good luck!Have fun!jennymatlock at cox dot net

Okay, I gave you a shout out on this mornings post … along with a few other new linky parties. I think that some of your writers and readers will also like to know about the thrifty book exchange one too. Have a great weekend, Lisa.

Hi Susan – I hope you do join in. It isn't too late to post on this one–I won't post anything new until until Sunday night or early Monday morning. If you have an idea, just jump right in!Hey Lynn – Yes, my youngest is a budding photographer. 🙂 I'll do a call out to everyone, though. If you have a photo you think would be a terrific book cover, I'll be happy to use it and embed the photo credit on the pic. Hi Jenny – You'll probably hear from me. I had sent out a request to Mr. Linky and they actually responded with a fix, but I can't make it work. I'll appreciate your help. Thanks, Kathy! You're a doll. You know I appreciate the support. :)Hey Tammy – Your blurb is terrific. Where did you come up with those names? I want whatever you're drinking. LOL

this is hard! Tony told me to write about an Irish, drug addicted hooker with a heart of gold …who has wacky escapades. So you can see why I stopped him there and did not participate this week. I'm going to rev up my creative juices for next week. But I wanted to stop by and tell you how happy I am that you got such a great turn out for the first week of BBF!!!

I bet you could make it Stephanie Plum-ish. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing you at critique group tomorrow. Thanks for checking in! I'll look forward to your BBF next week.Hi Karen – Thanks!

I revised my intro to my BBF while you were commenting on it. You missed a little "jab" I sent your way.I think you need some sort of "icon" or sign that we can post on our blogs, to let everyone know we are part of the BBF. You made Mr. Linky work. (Which is a task beyond my skills.) I am sure this would be a cinch…
