Book Blurb: Your Opinion is Requested!

Posted on Feb 16, 2011 by Lisa Ricard Claro   22 Comments | Posted in contests · meme

Thank you everyone for your support of my goal to reach 100 followers! As I write this, I am only three readers short of the magic number. Wow! I am truly appreciative, and continue to be amazed by the support provided by fellow bloggers.  What a talented and generous community of people you are. Thank you!

My blog contest is still open for anyone who wants to enter. Click the tab above under the blog header for full details.

I need your opinion!

As you know, I’m addicted to Microfiction Monday. I love writing the 140 character stories and linking back to read those written by others. In fact, I enjoy it so much, I’d like to host my own meme. Here’s how it would work:

Every Friday I’ll post a photo that we’ll pretend is the cover of a book. In 150 words or less (length of the average book blurb) write the blurb that you think belongs on the back of the book. You create the story, decide the genre, fiction or non, etc. You’ll post your blurb on your site with a link from/to this one so others can find you or come here to participate.

The goal: Write a book jacket blurb (150 words or less) so enticing that potential readers feel compelled to buy the book.

So, what do you think? If I get it started would you participate? Or are there already too many of these things floating around and taking up your time?  Yes, no, maybe? I’d love for you to leave a comment, but here’s a poll to make it easy for you to render an opinion:

if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget(‘587b2d82-8c33-46a8-80c0-3d6b0009b5c9’); Get the <a href=”″>Poll Creator Pro</a> widget and many other <a href=””>great free widgets</a> at <a href=””>Widgetbox</a>! Not seeing a widget? (<a href=””>More info</a>)

Thanks for your feedback!

I like that it would be at a different part of the week as Microfiction Monday and Magpie Tales.I LOVE that it is like a book pitch. Perhaps as we are writing about your photos, we are 1) getting some ideas for a new writing project and 2) honing our ability to write succinctly and compellingly about a project.Lisa, your idea is quite different from Microfiction Monday and Magpie Tales–it gives us a bit of direction (in a good way), and judging by the participation that those two memes get, I think lots of people would love to have another reason to write during the week.

What a great idea! I would love to, but hesitate to commit only b/c of the time factor. I've been over committed lately and trying to get a balance back. Is it possible to jump in off and on?Happy Wednesday,Karen

Hi Lisa, I think that is a great idea. I don't know if I'll write the blurbs because I'm chicken, but I would love it if you would feature my photos once in awhile!Congratulations on being so close to 100 followers, that is wonderful.Kathy

Oy. Why can't they make a meme that'll add hours to the day? Don't know if I'll have time to squeeze this writing in, but I'll zip over and read 'em!

Your link isn't there – I had the same problem with doing a link the other day on my blog. I wonder if it's a blogger glitch. At any rate, the idea sounds fun… I'm afraid to commit! Ha! But I'm sure I will some times at any rate.

Hey everyone – Thanks for your input. So far it seems to be a definite maybe. LOL There is, of course, no commitment to this. On the weeks you have time, great; if you don't, we'll miss you that week. No pressure. I'll keep the poll running for a few days and hopefully get more feedback. Stay tuned! 🙂

Hi Lisa, I think that meme idea is positively fascinating. That being said, I've yet to join any meme bandwagons, so I can't say I'd participate. I feel overwhelmed enough by the tasks on my plate. Still, though, fascinating… I love the idea of describing a book that has yet to be written (or, possibly, written a million times already, but with different protagonists). Someone once told me that there are only about 7-8 plotlines in all of fiction…

This sounds like fun! When do we start? (I'm a great starter, not always a good finisher – loads of unfinished projects around the house . . .)

Clever idea! And speaking of clever ideas, if I happened to have any, I would add mine. Unfortunately that light bulb only flashes from time to time…but I'm always up for something inspiring! I would love to read them even if I didn't participate!

Yes I'd take part – I do Microfiction Monday and Haiku Wednesday, so Book Blurb Friday would suit me fine.I would like to protest the unfair poll though. Anything is better than a Jell-O mosh pit at a Jusitin Beiber concert! Come to think of it, I would rather be eating cold pork gravy and raw chitlins while ice fishing in the antarctic than be anywhere near a Justin Beiber concert!:Dom

Hi Becky – True that!Hey Katie – I thought about all the story ideas to be derived from this book blurb meme. Now you're telling me there's only 7-8…don't burst my bubble! LOL Whether this generates the creative flow I'm expecting remains to be seen. 🙂 Hi Jabblog – Hmmm…if enough people seem interested I'll probably get it started within a couple weeks. Hey Tammy – Your awesome blog is proof that you have ooh-gobs of clever ideas! If I get this thing going, feel free to participate (or not) as it suits you. 🙂

Hey Dom — Good point on the Bieber concert. Give me a break though…it was late when I came up with those gems and I was tired! LOL Glad to know you'll participate. I'll keep you posted!
