Friends, Polar Bears, & Chocolate: Proof of Life & Sunshine

IMG_20150526_190129153Last week was one of the worst in my recent memory, a full 10 on the crappy scale. But then, just like Mama always told me, the sun came out again.

First, my doc called with good news—“benign” and “biopsy” sound so sweet together—and second, I got to spend the whole afternoon chatting with my writing Yoda, the always brilliant Cathy C. Hall. She made me laugh, made me think, and toasted my upcoming book release with a cookie. Always a mood enhancer. And THEN, I arrived home to find my copies of the book,Β Adventures of the Polar Bear Brothers. This is a children’sΒ story I wrote for Darakwon, a Korean publisher of children’s educational literature. Look at the book, Buttercup! Omigosh, I love the illustrations so much! And I’m beyond thrilled that a story I wrote will be used to help Korean kids learn to speak English.

The hubster thinks I’m more excited over this than I was when the ARCs of my novel arrived. He might be right.

Did I mention I love the illustrations?!

The only thing missing at the moment is a glass of wine, but unless I want to head out into the thunderstorm—I do not—I’ll have to make due with a hot cup of tea. And maybe a shot of Jim Beam honeyed whisky. And chocolate. Pretty sure I’ve got some Ghirardelli dark chips around here somewhere. No wonder I can’t button my jeans. But, hey! Did I mention the illustrations? It’s so cool to see my story come to life!

Lesson for the week: It may always be darkest before the dawn, but the sun always comes out again. Sometimes it looks a lot like chocolate…or a bear…or, if you’re really lucky, a wise and witty friend.

See you Friday for Observations from the Tub!

Have a great Wednesday –

Glad your week got better. I love the Polar Bears! The Polar Bear is a favorite of mine since it was my high school mascot. πŸ™‚ I’m still on pins and needles waiting for Love Built to Last to release. πŸ™‚

The illustrator really did a great job. lol I have to stop saying that. And I’m glad you’re looking forward to the book coming out. I think I’m finally done with the edits! Hard to believe it’s coming up so soon.

Holy crap! I get buried under report card duty, and look what all I missed!

First, whew! That is wonderful news from the doctor. It sucks to get older, doesn’t it! Our aches and pains–if we’re lucky–don’t get more serious than something to moan and groan about.

Secondly, you’re now an author of international fame? Yikes! And for goodness sake, lie. Tell people you encounter (unless they’re Korean) that you’re fluent in Korean, you wrote the book in Korean but you will be glad to “translate” the story for them. πŸ˜‰

Congratulations! I guess there is so much squealing going on at the Claro house, the hubster has to wear ear plugs?

Haha—He probably wished he did (have ear plugs). As to faking Korean, I don’t have to. The story is actually in English. πŸ™‚ It’s all the other stuff that is in Korean—this is an educational tool, so it takes vocab words from the story and I had to write comprehension quizzes and stuff to go with it. I really love the illustrations. I keep saying that. lol But I love how they illustrated the cubs. One of the cubs is timid and one is not, and the mischievous one has his hair sticking up to differentiate him from his brother. So darn cute.

I am soooo glad those two words came together for you, Lisa: benign and biopsy. I’ve been there myself and it’s very scary. And CONGRATULATIONS on the adorable book! Love it! Love the cover, the illustrations, and I know your story is wonderful. Did you know my twin daughters are Korean? We adopted them when they were five. We had to teach them English. This book would have been awesome for us back then. A toast of wine indeed!

No, Lynn, you didn’t miss any info. I never mentioned it on social media. Figured I’d wait, hoped to have good news to share, and it turned out that I did. I don’t believe the book is available here, but if I learn that it is, I’ll let you know.
