Romance is good for your heart!

I Won! I Won! AND It’s Microfiction Monday!

I won, I won! Did you hear me whooping and hollering and jumping up and down? No? I’ll do it again right now, just for you!

No, buttercup, no winning lottery ticket here, and Publisher’s Clearinghouse didn’t show up with a promotional check the size of Rhode Island. But  I did win first prize in the Writers’ Journal Short Story Romance contest, and that is one terrific way for a writer to begin the new year! My winning story, Fireflies, will be published in Writers’ Journal sometime in the next couple of months; I’ll let you know when.

Other cause for jubilation? Why, Microfiction Monday, of course, where 140 characters or less has to be enough to tell a story. Thank you, as always, to Susan at Stony River for hosting.  Here is the pic for this week and my two offerings:

I knew Mama found him handsome
because she applied lipstick before stopping for gas,
and we never used to go to Texaco.
Daddy doesn’t know.

Have you seen American Idol without Simon?
All they win now is a star stencil and a coupon for an oil change.
Talk about a ratings slide!

Happy first Monday of the New Year everyone!

Til next time –
Lisa

Congratulations on winning first place in the Writers Journal Short Story Roamnce Contest, Lisa!! I can see your writing talent in your microfiction stories. I like the fact that Mama and Daddy are the main characters in your first story, and the Texaco man is the love object. Romantic intrigue in one and humor in the second one…excellent!
