Inspiring Blogger Award: 7 Naked Truths Revealed

Posted on Mar 11, 2015 by Lisa Ricard Claro   22 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Hello, y’all. Last week was a horrible week for me as I was sick with a nasty cold. It was made worse by the fact that, at my husband’s urging, I had taken the whole week out of work for the express purpose of finishing Love to Win, the third book in the Fireflies series. There I was, with an entire week to write, and I spent the bulk of it lying around doing a fine impression of a cotton-headed, mouth-breathing slug. So much for my big writing  plans—and what a yucky way to spend a whole week off the day job.

In the midst of my drowning-in-snottiness came a glimmer of light in the form of The Very Inspiring Blogger Award, bestowed upon me by my writing Yoda and friend, Cathy C. Hall. Thanks for this, Cathy. It was a pleasant addition to an otherwise wasted week, the equivalent of a daffodil spearing through the snow. I am happy to accept this award.

The Very Inspiring Blogger Award rules are:

• Display the award on your blog
• Link back to the person who nominated you
• State 7 things about yourself
• Nominate 15 3 bloggers (I’m copying Cathy), link to them, and notify them about their nominations.

So, here we go, Buttercup. Seven Naked Truths about yours truly . . .

1. I am addicted to potato chips, with a particular fondness for the sea salt kettle kind. I can eat a whole bag, by myself, in one sitting. Not a wimpy bag either. I’m talking one of the industrial size, feed-a-small-nation bags. Add a tub of sour cream and fuggedaboutit. Do not judge me.

2. My hair makes me crazy, all day, every day. When it’s short, I think it should be long. When it’s long, I think it should be short. It is naturally wavy/curly, but by how much varies by the day, thanks to causes unknown, so it may look different every time you see me.

3. Rapid decision making is a skill I do not possess. I can’t even cross the street without first creating a spreadsheet to delineate the possible ramifications, or a 3D model to view all likely outcomes prior to stepping off the curb. *sigh* It ain’t easy being me, Buttercup.

4. I have a phobia about driving downtown and cannot read a map to save my soul. Early on in our marriage the hubster fired me as navigator when he realized we were lost because I was reading the map upside down. I’m the reason they invented GPS.

5. I love browsing through flea markets with antiques, because the old furniture carries ghosts. I always wonder at the secrets those pieces might tell, if only they could speak. I fancy I can hear the whispers.

6. I used to wear lipstick every day, but these days I prefer my Burt’s Bees tinted lip balm. In any event, I’m about to teach you how to apply lipstick that will last all day, and possibly through a nuclear holocaust. Step 1: Powder. Step 2: Liner. Step 3: Fill it in. Step 4: Blot. Step 5: Powder. Step 6: Reapply color. This will last all day, through meals, etc. When my third child was born the nurses were amazed because I got through labor and delivery with my lipstick intact.

7. By nature, I am a nurturer. When you visit my home I’m likely to hug you and then try to feed you. Just roll with it. I can’t help the compulsion. It’s like an allergic reaction. If you’re breathing, I figure you must be hungry. It is my job as Mama Claro to see you leave my house with a full belly. Mangia, mangia!

Okay, so the rules say I have to forward this to 15 bloggers. That’s a lot of bloggers, y’all, and since Cathy herself only tagged 3, I shall follow her lead and tag only 3 as well. There are a ton of inspiring bloggers out there, but these are the three that popped into my mind first:

T’Mara Goodsell  – Tammy is a microfiction maven, and y’all know how I love microfiction. When she’s not writing flash stuff, she’s putting her own spin on other topics that crack me up, sometimes tear me up, and she always gives her readers something to think about.

Kathy Matthews – Kathy is the Energizer Bunny. She blogs, posts to Facebook, takes amazing photographs, creates glorious table settings, and does all manner of creative things. The lady is an unstoppable force. She posts a lot of interesting things, making sure there’s something there for everyone.

Debbie Christiana – Debbie is an author of paranormal romance, and her blog is filled with things that go bump in the night, including a monthly “Wonderfully Weird Bottle of Wine,” which y’all know is right up my alley. For October last year she featured “Haunted Zombie  Zinfandel” which is way cool, kinda like Debbie herself.

Don’t forget ladies, that this award, should you choose to accept it, comes with the rules listed above. I hope you do accept, because I’d love to learn seven little known things about you. And Cathy C. Hall, thanks for gifting me with my first bloom of spring.

Serendipitous Stuff

Not to brag, but here in Georgia spring has sprung! The daffodils are up, the trees are budding, and robins are hopping through every yard in the neighborhood. It’s almost time to breakout the sundresses and sandals. I can’t wait! For my northern friends, I wish you much sunshine to melt all of the snow. What is the weather doing where you are?

A reminder – I’ll be switching to a new website soon, and anyone following me on WordPress may be lost in the conversion. If you’re following by WordPress, please consider using the sidebar widget to sign up via email. That way you will continue to be notified of new posts. Also, the email addresses collected are NEVER shared, and you will not be spammed.

In the spirit of today’s post, please leave a comment and share a little known Naked Truth about yourself.

Thanks for swinging by.  See you next week for more of the Naked Truth!

Have a wonderful Wednesday –

Hi Lisa, Thank you so much for this award and your kind words. I love having a blog and my wine posts are such fun each month 🙂 Congratulations as well to T’Mara and Kathy!

We’re still pretty snow packed here in New England, but it was 40 yesterday and may reach 50 today so the melting has begun, yay!!

See you at the end of the week with some naked truths about myself….

Thanks for accepting the award, Debbie. I’ll look forward to reading your 7 things. 🙂 Glad you’re finally feeling some warmer weather (not sure 40 really qualifies as warm, though). Raining here today, and hitting a high of 74.

I don’t know which was better – finding out that we both have similar decision making skills and multiple personality hair, or finding out I was nominated for this award. Oh, who am I kidding? Awards are always welcome, whereas surprise hairstyles often are not. Thank you so much! I’ll get on it. Oh, and I can survive your infliction of daffodil torture because we too are flirting with spring today. I’m in the Midwest, so it’s like the hair. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

You suffer from bipolar hair, too? It makes me crazy. Sometimes it isn’t all curly or all straight—the worst days are when it’s a little bit of both, with curly sections and straight sections. Happy to hear your weather is improving! And I’ll check in to read your 7 things. 🙂

Happy that the award lifted your spirits, Lisa. As my mom used to say, “It doesn’t take much to make you happy”–and that is a true compliment!

And the directions thing. I truly believe we were separated at birth. 🙂

Thanks again for the award. It really did lift my spirits. And it is kinda scary, the stuff we have in common. Every time we turn around there’s something else. lol

So glad you are feeling better. Congratulations on the award, and congrats to your nominees as well! It was fun to learn more about you. I too, am not one to make decisions quickly. Will have to try that lipstick trick. 🙂

Let me know how the lipstick thing works for you, Karen. It was always foolproof for me. 🙂

Aw, Rob, don’t tell me that. *sigh* I know of one other person who had a problem with it, and that was many moons ago. After you sign up it should email you a confirmation, and I’m assuming you never received that. If you want to give me your email address—either in a comment, or you can email directly at—I can make sure you’re not lost when the switchover happens.

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t complete the process with your email address, unless there is some setting on your computer that is blocking it. I never could figure it out with the other person, either.

I sent you my email. It’s probably my and my poor tech skills.

Lisa–No, I was the reason GPS was invented. AND I was the reason that the GPS says things like, “Turn now… Turn NOW. Turn right now, idiot!”

This is a well-deserved award. I’m sorry you didn’t get to get any writing done, but I’m sure you’ll make up for it somehow.

Haha — guess we’re cut from the same cloth, Sioux, when it comes to being directionally challenged. Your comment reminded me of something my daughter heard, which was GPS with the voice of Mr. T: “Pity the fool who missed the right turn!” haha – I’d go the wrong way just to hear Mr.T.

Hi Lisa! I’m glad Spring is arriving in Georgia. This is my second Spring living in Florida. People who say Florida doesn’t have seasons are so wrong. Today feels very much like a Spring day to me.

Your hair is lovely and I love flea markets, too.

I think I’m following your blog via WordPress and via email (I get two emails each time you do a new post) so, hopefully I’m all set for when you switch.

That’s good to hear about Florida. The hubster and I keep talking about moving down there some day, but I’ve worried that it might be too hot for us. Does the summer heat bother you much?

Thank you for the hair compliment. It’s a challenge! And if I ever move down to FL you can be my flea market buddy. 🙂

Glad you’re covered for the move. I’m sorry you’re getting double emails, though!

The summer heat doesn’t bother us a bit but… we live in a community where our lawn is mowed for us and we don’t have any landscaping (yet) to take care of. Basically we go from an air conditioned house to an air conditioned car to an air conditioned whatever. We also have a small community pool that we visit frequently. Yes, we probably complain a little about the heat sometimes but it’s still 100 times better than Ohio in winter!

The double emails don’t bother me a bit and I’d be happy to be your flea market buddy!

You know, I can’t argue with your statement about Ohio winters. Just the thought of that much cold and snow makes me shiver. We used to live in Vegas, and I can’t imagine the Sarasota heat is worse than that, especially with the beach so close. Hopefully, we’ll find out first hand one of these days. 🙂

You made me hungry for potato chips. My fav is salt and vinegar…drive my hubby nuts! Sorry you felt so bad, but glad you are better. Here it was a wonderful sunny day and hubby had to put up small umbrella. Tomorrow and Friday it is rain again but am so grateful for the perk of today!

I, too, am directionally challenged. There isn’t a map or GPS system yet created that I can’t screw up.

I am right there with you on being directionally challenged, Lisa. My son used to say I can get lost in my own neighborhood — and he would be right! Congratulations on the award! I so enjoy your blog, as I hope you know. The award is very much deserved.
