Love to Win Ebook Final 021716

Available to purchase July 30th.

Happy Wednesday, buttercup! This is an exciting and busy week for me, and a little sad, too.

First, the exciting and busy part. LOVE TO WIN, book 3 in the Fireflies series, releases this Saturday, July 30th. This is Brenna and Dante’s story, and it was a long time coming. Their relationship simmered in books 1 and 2, so by the time my fingers tapped the keyboard to share the details of their romance, those two were more than ready. There are several things that occur in the book—their first kiss, for instance—that were not part of the original plot. The kiss happened and I ran with it, but it changed several subsequent scenes. I had other plans for their first smoochie, but Dante got tired of waiting for me and took matters into his own hands. It was wonderful! I love when that happens. In my experience, it makes for a better book.

The release of a novel is often compared to childbirth, and there’s a good reason for that. The gestation period varies from author to author, but make no mistake—from inception to completion, novel writing is a jumbled combination of excitement, misery, emotional distress, and total elation, often all at the same time. Add the bouts of paralyzing self-doubt—I’ve yet to meet a writer who doesn’t experience this—and it’s a recipe for, as Dante would say, “batshit crazy,” like you’ve never seen. Kudos to all those spouses and significant others who love, feed, and water their authors through it all. I salute you. (Joe Claro, my love, you deserve a medal.)

Now for the sad . . .

The 16th anniversary of my mother’s death is August 5th. Sixteen years and I miss her still, have things I want to share with her, every single day. I’m envious of everyone who still has their mother, especially in this era of instant communication. I moved away from my parents in 1985. Those were the days of landlines and snail mail. I look back and wish I’d worried less about my long distance phone bill and more about talking to my parents. If there is one thing I regret in my life, it’s that I didn’t talk to them as often as I might have when I still had the chance. Oh, what I’d give to hear their voices just one more time.

So this is a bittersweet time for me. I’m feeling the loss of my parents keenly, but I’m excited, too. The Fireflies series has had a hold of me for a long time, and with the release of LOVE TO WIN I’m able to blow kisses to my three book babies and move on to the next challenge.

Many of you have asked if I’ll continue the series now that the stories of the three main couples have been told. The answer is, yes, it is likely. While I’m busy at work on a different series, there are several Bright Hills characters that aren’t through with me yet. So it may be a while, but the book hasn’t yet been closed on Fireflies.

Thanks for hanging with me! See you next week for more of the Naked Truth.

🙂 Lisa

Congratulations on Book 3! Excited for you. So sorry about your mom. I can relate, my mom’s been gone 6 years now and I miss her everyday. I’m sure your mom would rejoice in your success and be so proud of you! 🙂

Thank you, Karen. She and my dad would be getting a kick out of all this, no doubt. 🙂

Lisa–My mom has not been gone that many years, but I know how you feel. There are even rare moments when I see something advertised on TV or in a magazine and think, ‘Mom would like that’ and consider getting it… and then realize she’s gone.

However, I think your mother is watching down on you, and is enjoying your successes right along with you.

Thanks, Sioux. I hope she is. Lord knows I talk to her all the time. 🙂 I understand about your mother—I do the same thing. So often something happens and my immediate reaction is to share it with her. That’s a good thing, I guess. I hope it means she’s somewhere near.

Ha! Well, I know better. Y’all are hard workers, even those of you who have retired. I hope you love the book!

Oh boy and I bet it’s up for pre-order!
I lost my mother about fifteen years ago. We weren’t close, probably my fault. She wanted a frilly daughter and she got…me

You know, it didn’t go up for pre-order on Amazon until the day before release, but it was up on Barnes & Noble before then. In any event, it’s available now. 🙂 Sorry about your mum. I’m not sure if being close makes it easier or harder.

I understand how you feel about missing your mom. My mom died 3 years ago this month but she lived a long life (89) and she missed my dad who’s been gone 26 years next month.

On a happier note…Love to Win is absolutely wonderful; I think it’s my favorite of the series. I loved Dante; he’s a great book boyfriend.

Hope it wasn’t a rough month for you. Usually I get past it without marking the day—it’s like my subconscious gets me through it that way. But this year I’ve thought about it a lot, for some reason.

So happy you loved the book. You know I’m a nail biter till the “thumbs up” comes in. lol
