New Releases by Kick-Ass Authors

Happy Wednesday! Spring will soon become summertime, and for many that means upcoming vacations or lazy Saturdays spent on a blanket at the park, pool, or beach. If you’re like me, you love to have good reading material on these outings, so I’m catching you up on the work of a few kick-ass authors, most of whom you’ve met through interviews/guest posts here at Writing in the Buff. Check out their newest releases!

Terry Lynn Thomas’s newest novel has released TODAY! I was fortunate to be an early reader and promise that if you love well-researched historical novels with a gothic feel, you’ll be an immediate fan. I LOVE this book. Even better, this is just the first to feature Terry’s smart and spunky heroine, the classy Catherine Carlisle. There are more Cat Carlisle novels percolating! Don’t you just love a good series? Don’t miss out on the first of these sure-to-be bestsellers.

You may recall that I interviewed Terry last year about her Sarah Bennett Mysteries (January 2017: Terry Lynn Thomas Interview). I’m telling you, if you love gothics (think Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt) you’ll want all of Terry Lynn Thomas’s titles on your bookshelf.

Here’s the blurb for The Silent Woman:

“Would you sell your secrets?

Catherine Carlisle is trapped in a loveless marriage and the threat of World War Two is looming. She sees no way out… that is until a trusted friend asks her to switch her husband’s papers in a desperate bid to confuse the Germans.

Soon Catherine finds herself caught up in a deadly mixture of espionage and murder. Someone is selling secrets to the other side, and the evidence seems to point right at her.

Can she clear her name before it’s too late?”

Super Nova. That’s the nickname I’ve given prolific author Casey Hagen, and after you read her books you’ll agree it’s a solid moniker. Her latest release sat at #1 in its Amazon category for weeks, and as of this writing is holding the #2 spot. Her tagline? Not your mother’s romance. Read her books and see why it’s true.

Here’s the blurb for Shielding Harlow:

“Dylan North, retired SEAL, finally found his stride after putting together the perfect team of private investigators and personal security agents available. His company, Fierce, allows him the ability to help civilians in precarious situations utilizing his SEAL skills, without having to traipse all over the globe for seemingly endless missions in hostile environments.

Harlow Cassidy gave up every dream she ever had to raise her daughter, Ashton. With years of hard work, she’s built a comfortable life for them both—until her brother’s criminal ways spill over into her world, threatening the security she’s built for her and her daughter. With time running out, she turns to the one man she can count on to do anything it takes to save her daughter, even it means ripping open his heart.

Secrets are revealed as two hearts are torn apart by fifteen years of deception and a burning flame that never died. In the most crucial mission Dylan will ever face, can he trust Harlow to do what it takes to not only save what she holds dear, but mend a union denied by a misguided sense of duty as well?”

Alison McMahan’s multi-award-winning YA novel The Saffron Crocus was a soon-to-be-released title when I featured Alison on my blog. (December 2014: Alison McMahan Interview) Since that time, Alison has been busy with other writing, the latest of which is a short story, Kamikaze Iguanas, included in this R.L. Stine middle grade anthology. The book is available for pre-order now, releasing in July 2018.

Here’s the Scream and Scream Again! blurb:

“A harrowing array of scary stories that all have one thing in common: each either begins or ends with a scream!

R.L. Stine—the godfather of Goosebumps—and some of the most popular authors today bring an unrivaled mastery of all things fearsome, frightening, and fantabulous to this terrifying anthology of all-new scary short stories.

Scream and Scream Again! is full of twists and turns, dark corners, and devilish revenge. Collected in conjunction with the Mystery Writers of America, this set includes works from New York Times bestselling authors telling tales of wicked ice-cream trucks, time-travelling heroes, witches and warlocks, and of course, haunted houses.

Read it if you dare! With twenty never-before-published scary stories from some of the most popular authors today—including Chris Grabenstein, Wendy Corsi Staub, Heather Graham, Peter Lerangis, R.L. Stine, Bruce Hale, Emmy Laybourne, Steve Hockensmith, Lisa Morton, Ray Daniel, Beth Fantaskey, Phil Mathews, Carter Wilson, Doug Levin, Jeff Soloway, Joseph S. Walker, Alison McMahan, Daniel Palmer, Tonya Hurley, and Stephen Ross—it’s sure to leave readers screaming for more.”

When Tierney James was first featured on my blog (June 2016: Tierney James Interview) we focused on her geopolitical conflict thrillers, the novels in her Enigma Series. But Tierney’s newest adventure has to do with marketing. Yeah, I know. The “m” word. It makes most authors shudder. I haven’t read Tierney’s how-to just yet, but you know it’s on my TBR. If Tierney wrote it, it has to be good.

Here’s the blurb for How to Market a Book Someone Besides Your Mother Will Read:

“Writing a novel is a difficult and wonderful accomplishment. Most new authors fail to realize how much work still needs to be completed before even the editors, designers, and publishers have a crack at it. Why write this book? I wanted to share my marketing plan for new authors, beginning writers, and for dreamers who stare at notebooks and journals and long to make words into magic. You need to start your marketing plan from the moment you write your first paragraph.

Not all of the hints, advice or plans I offer will work for you, but some will. There won’t be time to do all of them, but you’ll have time to try many of these ideas. Some are more involved than others, but after you implement a few things, it will become easier. Don’t be afraid. You can do this. Take it from a shy, nerdy girl, who wanted to be a war correspondent, an astronaut and teacher, you just have to try.”

Cathrina Constantine’s newest novel is sure to be a bestseller like her others. In fact, the novel featured in her guest post (February 2015: Cathrina Constantine Guest Post), the romantic mystery/thriller for Young Adults, Don’t Forget to Breathe, went on to win numerous awards. And Cathrina hasn’t slowed down.

Here’s the blurb for Cathrina’s newly released Wings of Flesh and Bones:

“An Angel. A Witch. A Demon. And A Choice.

Creatures from outer realms suck, as any gatekeeper worth their salt will tell you. Welcome to Rogan’s life, an orphaned seventeen-year-old who lives and trains with other misfits under her uncle’s roof, keeping Earth safe from non-human realm jumpers. Rogan’s biggest issue concerns her uncle’s short leash with her freedom—that is of course, until she’s taken by a notorious witch, and her life begins to unravel. Soon, the supernatural beauty discovers there’s a reason her uncle kept such a tight lock on her whereabouts, and that she has more than angel blood running through her veins.

Eighteen-year-old Max is an angel, and Rogan’s mentor and guardian. He’s well aware of her tenacious inability to obey orders, though he also knows she’s a fierce fighter. When he’s involved in a scheme that ultimately gets Rogan kidnapped, he must battle his way back to her in an attempt to save her from the darkness threatening to possess her.”

Karen King is a multi-published author of children’s books and romantic fiction. Her publishing credits include 120 (yes, 120) children’s books, two young adult novels, five romantic novels, and short stories for women’s magazines. Karen is a new-to-me author I was fortunate to connect with on social media—as much as I hate to admit it, Facebook is good for something—and I’m proud to include her here and also to shout out that she’ll be featured in a new interview here at Writing in the Buff on April 25th which also happens to be the release date for Rise of the Soul Catchers, available now for pre-order.

Here’s the blurb for Rise of the Soul Catchers:

“Sapphire and Will vow to love each other forever, so when they are both killed in a car crash their first thought is to find each other. But in an afterlife of zones named after the colours of the rainbow, and a cast of characters they don’t know whether to trust, this isn’t an easy task. Their quest takes them—individually—to Red, the zone where the dreaded Soul Catchers live and where terror is only a thought away. There, they are reunited, but find themselves part of the Soul Catchers’ plan to burst out of Red and take over the Afterworld. Is their love strong enough to survive?”

Thanks for hanging out with me here at Writing in the Buff.  I hope you’ll check out the links for these kick-ass authors, all of whom also happen to be extremely nice people—always a bonus.  🙂

Yes, Casey’s books are right up your alley. And when I say she’s prolific, I mean REALLY prolific. She has written full length novels, but a lot of her success has come with Kindle Worlds. She’s a great storyteller with a big heart to match. Love that girl! And so will you. 🙂

Lisa–The R.L. Stine book, along with the one on marketing (which is a four-letter word, in my opinion 😉 sound good. The others sound too sweet for my taste…

This post proves what a great writing friend you are…
