Poor Shubie – He’s Wrong Again . . .

Welcome to the last 2015 Writing in the Buff I’m leaving you with my ultra-short story, “The One,” an honorable mention in The Binnacle Twelfth Annual Ultra-Short Competition. The Binnacle is the literary and arts journal of the University of Maine at Machias. My story shares pages with my pal, author T’Mara Goodsell, whose ultra-short In Memory of the Fallen (and the Hurled), also earned an honorable mention in this annual edition. I love being in good company. 🙂

“The One” is proof positive that I don’t always write romance and happy endings. It’s fun to branch out, and flash fiction is one of the best methods I know for working and flexing our writer muscles. The challenge is always worth the effort. If you have an ultra-short bit of fiction you’d like to share, please put it in a comment!

There will be no Observations from the Tub again this week, but I’ll see you next Monday for Pawsitive Pondering. Until then, please enjoy a joyful and safe New Year’s celebration, my friends!

Romance is good for your heart! To purchase your copy of Love Built to Last in eBook or Print, go to AmazonBarnes & NobleBlack Opal BooksKobo, or AllRomance. Book #2, Love to Believe, will be available for purchase January 30, 2016!

For such a cozy romance writer, you can be a tad bent. 🙂

Congrats! Well deserved. Poor Shubie indeed; trial and err is a rough row.

As Joni Mitchell sang, “Man, the chick is twisted.”

You, Lisa, have a twisted mind. Perhaps someday you could write a character in a novel who writes twisted, super-short romance stories. Then you could combine two things you do really well.

Congratulations on the honorable mention. You and Tammy do short things with flair…

Haha…thanks. I don’t mind writing twisted—it’s fun! Your idea is a good one. I’ll have to think on it and see what brews. 🙂

How great for you! A good way to end the year for a writer…an acceptance of any kind! Twisted yes, but doesn’t it feel good to let it out somewhere!!???!!!

Yes, Claudia, it does! And better to let it out on paper than anywhere else. lol

Thanks, Pat! Wishing the same for you and your family, and your newly adopted—and adorable—new fur baby.

Where was the notion of “flash fiction” all those years when I was teaching creative writing in Room 318?!?!? Tight plotting, salient detail – and short papers to correct! (By the way, this is pretty good, Lisa!)

Thank you, Mrs. M! I’ll take that as a B+ or an A, which was always hard won from you. You might not have been the easiest teacher, but you were without a doubt the best. 🙂

**For readers who may not know, Mrs. Mountford is the best teacher I ever had. She was my high school English teacher, and she is one of the main reasons I believed I could pursue a writing career. Never underestimate the power of a stellar educator! I wrote about Mrs. M here: High School Days: Who Really Made a Difference?

I didn’t see the ending coming! For a dedicated romance reader I sure enjoyed this little story. I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve and day.

My sister won 1/12th of a $250 jackpot and a friend won 1/2 of $250. (I wrote it that way so you’d know the amount of the jackpot. lol) Alas, neither hubby or I won anything but we did have a good time. I’m glad you had a good New Year. Here’s to an even better 2016.
