Shouting Out Big Congratulations To . . .

Today’s Naked Truth is a brag about a fellow writer, someone I found through blog hopping a while back. If you’re a regular visitor here you’ve read his comments, which are often funny and always insightful, and you have possibly interacted with him in that setting.

He’s reading this now and thinking, “Uh, does she mean me? She doesn’t mean me. Why would she—? Aw, geez…”

Yes, Robert Robinson, I’m talking about you!

As I said, I found Rob through blog hopping some time ago. It was one of those serendipitous things that happens on lucky days. Simply put, I love this guy’s writing. I love how his writing makes me feel. Sometimes his work is so funny I laugh out loud, and sometimes the heartfelt prose tears me up. Point is, when I read Rob’s work, I always feel something. We can’t ask for more than that from our favorite writers, can we?

Like a lot of writers, Rob is a humble soul, someone who pushes past the writerly self-doubt to submit his work for publication and is then astonished when those enthusiastic acceptances come in. I, of course, am never surprised to hear that he has another upcoming publication. Rob’s talent is solid, and I expect one day to be bragging, “I knew him before he was famous.”  He and I chat through email now and again, and I’m always so proud and happy for him when he shares good news. Having recognized his outstanding talent long ago, it was no shock when he notified me that he has been nominated by Antioch University’s literary journal, Lunch Ticket, for the Pushcart Prize.

When Rob first shared the news I happy danced on his behalf and started work on this post. He asked me to hold off telling anyone because he wanted to wait until the formal nominations were made, so I’ve been sitting on this. But it’s a big deal, and because Rob is too modest to shout it from the rooftops, I’m doing it for him now that the nominations are public. Facebook and Twitter, here I come!

Sorry, Rob. It’s the price you pay for befriending a bigmouth. 🙂

Congratulations, Robert Robinson, on your Pushcart Prize nomination!

Click over to Antioch University’s Lunch Ticket and read Rob’s Pushcart Prize nominated “Boiler Rat.”

If you haven’t yet read any of Rob’s work, I recommend that after reading “Boiler Rat” you visit his blog, Flyfishing the High Country.  You don’t have to be a fisherman to appreciate the depth and beauty of this man’s work. Read some of his posts, but approach with caution as they are addicting.  You’ll become a fan.

Please leave a comment to congratulate Rob, and then get thee to his blog. You won’t regret it. Trust me on this.

Thanks for visiting. Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you Friday for Observations from the Tub.

🙂  Lisa

Wow! I’m humbled by this post. All I can say is, thanks, Lisa. I don’t put much faith in winning the prize. It was enough for me to just be nominated. My face is red now. 🙂

You bet. Be careful, though. His work is addictive! His essays are kind of like Lay’s potato chips…nobody can read just one. 🙂

Rob–A Pushcart nomination is something to be extremely proud of. I read your story, “Boiler Rat.” It’s full of place and voice and has a haunting quality to it (wistfulness is a better term, perhaps?).

Lisa, thanks for sharing the link and the news. Writers need the encouragement of other writers. Otherwise, it’s too tough of a job…

Thanks, Sioux. “Boiler Rat” was a story I wanted people to see. Getting nominated was a big deal for me. Most of my friends thought I’d taken a job at Walmart. One friend said, “Congratulations, for whatever that is, how’s the fishing?” 🙂 Only a writer would know what this means to me. Thanks again.

Yes, to everything you said. Your comments about “Boiler Rat” are spot on, and yes, we writers do need encouragement and support from other members of the Tribe!

Congrats to Rob! I have, in fact, drifted over to his blog a couple times after reading a comment from him here, and I always like what I read. So I expect that I’ll like this story–off to give it a read!

Rob has written a lot of great stuff. He’s actually compiling his essays for a book, TBR in 2016, titled “Rocky Mountain Pastels.” I’m looking forward to reading it.
