Surprise! Coincidence or Divine Intervention

Posted on Mar 13, 2010 by Lisa Ricard Claro   11 Comments | Posted in coincidence · divine intervention · fate

I love a good surprise, and that was just what awaited me in my email inbox.  I recognized the name of an editor to whom I submitted a story at least a year-and-a-half ago.  She wrote to confirm my mailing address in order to forward my contributor’s copy of the book “The Mystery of Fate: Common Coincidence or Divine Intervention?”.

The last I heard, the anthology was on hold.  I filed it and forgot about it, so receiving the email flummoxed me. I actually looked up the book at Amazon and checked the Table of Contents.  Sure enough, my name is included with the title of the story I submitted.

My email “acts up” periodically and sends to the spam file perfectly valid emails from approved addresses.  I suppose that is what happened in this case.

In any event, I am thrilled to have my story included in this interesting book and look forward to receiving a copy.  It is a compilation of true stories regarding those unexplained occurrences that may be, as the title suggests, either coincidence or divine intervention. I expect I will read some eerie tales that send a shiver up my spine and force me to look over my shoulder a time or two.

As surprises go, this ranks right up there with deliveries from the local florist and finding a twenty dollar bill in the back pocket of a pair of old jeans.  Coincidence? Divine intervention? Reward for hard work?

Whatever the reason, the result is the same:  Me doing a happy dance!

Til next time –

Hi Linda – I was a little girl when my mom headed out to taxi my brother and sister to a party. She couldn't tell me, my Dad or my grandma why she didn't want me in the car, she just knew it was a bad idea. Back in those days (early 1960s) kids rode unrestrained, and I would have been standing up on the floor in front of the passenger seat hanging onto the dash to look out the window. After dropping my sibs at the party, Mama was in a terrible accident that sent her to the hospital. Had I been in the car I would have been killed. Also, we could hear the sirens from my house though the accident occurred a mile or so away; my grandma knew upon hearing the sirens that they were for my mom.

Hi, Lynn – I think most people have a story of this type hiding in their past, which is what makes it so fascinating. Thanks for visiting my blog! I'll be popping back in to yours…

Congratulations! I have never heard this story.. When I started reading, I thought you may have submitted the story that your mom told me about stopping for directions in the middle of the desert with your dad…or the one about your mom being in church and they needed an organist…I loved her stories…I can't wait to read your story in the book. You are right that most people have a story like this in their past…very interesting:-)
