Wednesday greetings, and a huge thank you to my ARC readers! The feedback for THE WRITE MAN has been fantastic, and I’m excited for the book to release this Friday. It isn’t too late to snag a copy of the ARC, so if you’d like to read it pre-release and post a review on release day or within a couple of days after, please let me know. It’s a novella, not a full-length novel, and if I’ve done my job right you’ll turn the pages so fast you’ll get to the end in no time at all. 🙂

Please join Roxanne St. Claire’s Barefoot Bay Fan Club on Facebook and hang out with me for the release celebration. It starts at 10 a.m. and goes on into the evening. Every hour you’ll meet a new author, and we’re all giving away prizes. I’ll be hosting the hour from 11-12 noon. Join the party for your chance to win. It’ll be fun. Hope to see you there!

THE WRITE MAN is my first Kindle Worlds book. Yes, I was a Kindle Worlds virgin, a first-timer to the world of e-books and DIY uploading. There was a learning curve like you wouldn’t believe. Not the writing part, of course, but the formatting and uploading part. Being clueless and doing what I always do, which is to make things way more complicated than necessary (just ask the hubster), I took advantage of the help offered by my friend and fellow author, Casey Hagen. My nickname for Casey is Super Nova, because she’s a force of nature and destined for great things. She took my completed manuscript and formatted it so I could see how it would look on an e-reader, and then she created multiple files, including those I’m using for ARCs. Not only that, but she’s been answering my silly questions and responding to nonsensical emails for weeks without ever once telling me I’m a pain in the ass. Yes, a true friend. 🙂 Also, Casey has a novella releasing with mine. Hers is titled UNCONVENTIONAL SEDUCTION. Casey’s author tagline is “Not your mother’s romance,” so . . . you do the math, buttercup. You want hot and steamy? Casey’s books are the ones you want to read.

After Casey did all her magic stuff to my manuscript it was time to upload to Kindle Worlds. It’s one of those things that isn’t hard, but isn’t without its troubles. First, I’m a knucklehead and uploaded the wrong version of the manuscript. Yep. Delete, delete, delete. Once I was sure the correct version of the book was there, I uploaded that gorgeous cover created by Melissa Stevens at The Illustrated Author. But wait! The edges of the words didn’t fit! No matter how I adjusted the cover, something was going to be cut off. I sent a frantic email to Melissa who responded almost immediately. Within just a few hours I had a new version of the cover ready for upload. No muss, no fuss. She dropped everything to take care of me. On her birthday, no less. And—voila!—it worked like magic. This type of client care is why I love to work with and recommend Melissa. She’s amazing.

So . . . manuscript uploaded—check. Book cover uploaded—check. Ooh-gobs of information provided to Kindle Worlds—check. Blood of firstborn—check. I was ready to preview the book.

Oh, no! The preview feature was gummed up and wouldn’t provide a review. I couldn’t—wouldn’t—click that “accept and submit” button without first reviewing the finished product.

I wrote a frantic email (there was no other kind this week) to Casey, wondering if I needed to keep panicking or go have a drink. She laughed at me and gave me the information for the Kindle Worlds contact. Another frantic email was sent. A few hours passed. Bam! Response received, preview fixed. The book looked great. I finally—FINALLY!—hit the “approve and submit” button. And THE WRITE MAN is ready for Friday’s release. So what am I doing now? Do you really have to ask?

Thanks for hanging out with me here at Writing in the Buff. Hope to see you Friday at the Barefoot Bay Fan Club. Come on over and win some free stuff. Meet Roxanne St. Claire, the creator of Barefoot Bay. I’ll be there from 11-12 noon, but a lot of other authors will also be there throughout the day.

Have a wonderful week! Hope to see you Friday at the party.  🙂

Congratulations, Lisa! You are so brave. I think about trying to self-publish a book, but immediately freeze with terror.

Lisa–So much whining FROM you (just kidding) means lots of wine FOR you (not kidding).

Congratulations. I’d volunteer to read the ARC but I have a packed weekend and wouldn’t want to post it too late. But I AM intrigued. After all, you sucked me into enjoying three (count ’em–three) romance novels… and I don’t do romance novels.

Hey, I live at the beach, so wine time comes around a little more frequently here. Haha…

It’s been too long since I’ve stopped by your blog and imagine my surprise to read this post! Congratulations on your novella! It looks like moving hasn’t slowed you down one bit. I can’t wait to read it! Thanks for sharing your process with us, it made me smile, then laugh, then miss you. Good job sticking with it and getting it done. Enjoy the wine!

Thanks, Deb! Now that I’ve done it once and know what to expect, it should be a little easier next time. Also, I’ll know not to panic when things go wrong, because there is always a fix. (knock on wood!)

You sound as if there’s some arm twisting going on. lol Tell you what. I’ll send it, and you can use it as an escape from whatever craziness is going on this weekend. The story does take place at the beach, and you can’t get much more relaxing than that. Should be good for that “Calgon, take me away!” effect. 🙂

I sure would like to read your ARC, but I think I’m too late? I stumbled upon the release party on Facebook this weekend, so if there’s achance to read it, I would love to. I can read reasonable fast and magic a review too quite easily – when I loved reading the book.
