Unexpected Blessings

A friend brought me flowers yesterday. The thoughtful gift was delivered with this lady’s usual abundance of sincerity laced with enough dry humor to keep me smiling long after she said goodbye. Surprises like that are blessings dropped into the middle of what are often ho-hum days. And, of course, I think of her whenever I look at the flowers.

Okay, so as I sat here typing this my phone rang—I’m not making this up—and it was this same friend informing me she had just delivered fresh banana bread to my door. “I didn’t want to bother you,” she said, “I just wanted you to have it.” Her visit would have in no way been a bother, but she is respectful of my writing hours, something I appreciate. And now in addition to flowers, I have banana bread. I will tease her later about having an evil plan to lull me into a false sense of security with flowers so she can fatten me up with baked goods and feed me to the gators as a holiday offering. She will best my feeble attempt at humor with some pithy remark that brings me a good, solid laugh. She’s much funnier than I.

I didn’t know this lady six months ago. I did not, in fact, know most of the people with whom I now spend a great deal of my free time. This move has resulted in an enrichment to my life that I neither expected nor imagined. So many lovely people all in one place! I love the folks I left behind in Georgia, but my heart is full with affection for those I’ve had the privilege to meet here in Florida. The best Christmas gift this year is the blessing of abundant friendships, the old and the new. I’m so grateful.

Speaking of new friends, I made quite a few during last Friday’s release party at the Barefoot Bay Fan Club on Facebook. Thank you to everyone who participated in that book launch party. There were some great prizes given away by all the authors. I have five people to name from the hour I hosted. Ladies, your prizes—a mug featuring my cat-on-books logo, signed copy of the Fireflies book of your choice, and a couple of surprise goodies—will be in the mail within the week. Congratulations to:

Shari Drehs Bartholomew
Jen Williams
Lisa Mitchell
Debbie Watson
Amy Linderman

Thanks for your participation, ladies.

A huge thank you once again to my ARC readers for reading and posting reviews of THE WRITE MAN on Amazon and Goodreads. I’m thrilled the feedback has been so positive. Thank you. I appreciate you!

Since I’m focused this holiday season on being grateful for friends, old and new, I’d like to shout out to each of you reading Writing in the Buff. I appreciate the time you spend reading and commenting, and I’m grateful for the friendships we’ve built and continue to build through this blogging community. Thanks, all of you, for being part of my tribe.

See you next week, buttercup. 🙂

Lisa–I think it is you and your husband who attract good people, whether it is in Georgia or Florida.

I think the fact that you’ve made such lovely friends so quickly says a lot about you and what you bring to your friendships – I’d like to have a friend who drops off banana bread!

Thanks, Leanne. The banana bread was delicious—and I slathered it in butter, so lets not talk calories. lol

I’m so glad your move to Florida is full of serendipitous moments.

Now I’m craving the sight of flowers – or at least a bite of banana bread.

I haven’t been much of a writing friend via blogging, commenting, etc., but I am so excited for you and your new release. You’re an inspiration and the sweetest. A snail mail letter will come your way soon.
